Barry Morishita Announced as Alberta Party’s Official Candidate for Brooks-Medicine Hat
Alberta Party Launches Nominations Across the Province with Leader as First Named Candidate for Next Provincial Election
May 17, 2022 - Barry Morishita, Leader of the Alberta Party, was officially nominated to run in the Brooks-Medicine Hat riding as the Alberta Party’s first candidate for the upcoming provincial election. Morishita, who became Leader in September 2021, is working to build the Alberta Party presence in the region while also recruiting candidates across the province.
“The Party is excited about Barry’s nomination. His leadership has brought a new and refreshing tone to the provincial political conversation that brings a strong vision for Alberta,” says Sue Timanson, President of the Alberta Party. “Barry’s nomination is the first of a field of candidates across the province that will provide Albertans with a positive, practical, and professional approach to getting things done for Albertans. We expect to have a full slate of 87 candidates in the election so that Albertans know that we are ready to represent them and form government.”
For 10 years, Barry served the people of Brooks as a City Councillor and Mayor. Prior to entering politics, Barry was a local business owner. He was also President of the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (now Alberta Municipalities) from 2017-2021, where he visited nearly every municipality in Alberta talking with community leaders, building a deep understanding of the needs of Albertans. He is a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather who has lived, in the Brooks region his whole life.
“The need for leadership that people can trust is sorely needed in the province. Albertans have shared with me their longing for a government of problem-solvers and innovators who tackle challenges using real-world experience and practical solutions,” stated Morishita. “I am proud to be the first nominated candidate for the Alberta Party – a party that is fighting for prosperity and opportunity for everyone. We embrace Alberta’s entrepreneurial spirit and fiscally pragmatic roots, while protecting human rights and stewarding our environment.”
Barry’s election team will be hosting a campaign launch event at 7:30pm on May 24th at the Brooks Heritage Inn Hotel & Convention Centre. All who support or are curious about the Alberta Party are welcome to attend and meet Barry and to share your own vision for Alberta. The Alberta Party is also opening other nomination races throughout the province.
