THE ALBERTA PARTY POLITICAL ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES THE RESIGNATION OF LEADER BARRY MORISHITA

With sadness, the Alberta Party Board of Directors announces the resignation of Barry Morishita from his position as Party Leader, effective 15 October 2023. After two years of service dedicated to promoting and building the Party, Barry is moving on to the next chapter in his storied career and we wish him continued success.

Barry brought new energy to the Alberta Party after taking on the leadership role in September of 2021. He was integral in renewing interest in the Party and in elevating the Party profile. The Board of Directors is grateful for Barry’s dedication, vision, energy and passion. Standing on his principles, Barry ran under the Alberta Party banner in his riding of Brooks/Medicine Hat in both a by-election and the provincial election in May of 2023 saying that he wanted to represent the friends and neighbors he’d shared the community with for decades. Undaunted by the results, Barry remains convinced that Alberta deserves better and that politics must change. He knows the Alberta Party has the answers Albertans are clamouring for.

With an principled approach to politics, Barry demonstrated his commitment to staying above the fray and introduced many to the idea of doing politics differently.

“Barry’s principled approach coupled with his unfailing integrity demonstrated a different way to do things,’ said Party Vice-President, Janet Jabush. “He earned the respect of Party members and many others. He focused on solutions to the issues facing Albertans and we are better for having been served by Barry’s leadership. The Party is grateful for your dedication and service to Albertans.”

The Alberta Party has a determined Board of Directors committed to advancing the causes of respectful political discourse, prudent fiscal management and inclusive social responsibility. We are focused on growth and member engagement. The post-election survey and three on-line virtual engagement sessions held over the summer made one thing abundantly clear: Albertans want another option and they want the Alberta Party to be that option.

The Board of Directors will stay the course and has begun planning for an AGM to include Board elections and discussions about the process of finding a new Leader.
