Positive Insights from meeting our constituents:  I see huge opportunities for the communities in this riding to collaborate far more from a small business perspective to help drive business to each other and work together to attract new customers.  We need the big picture perspective when looking at infrastructure investment and understanding cost savings in logistics management.

Bragg Creek 4-Way Stop:  During chats with business owners in Bragg Creek, the 4-way stop will always be a topic.  This is quite possibly the most confusing intersection in Alberta!  Apparently, there are times when the RCMP is used to direct traffic at this 4-way stop.  Paths and parking lots are other infrastructure concerns.  Safety is an obvious imperative and rural crime is a major component of safety.  I have suggested to the Alberta Party that a framework based on the three pillars of sustainability (economic, social and environment) is created to prioritize infrastructure projects.  To eliminate politicizing infrastructure projects, Albertans should know what metrics are being used in project prioritization, including water management projects.

It is hard to believe that we are already starting daylight savings time, which is great for evening door-knocking for our upcoming election.

As we are approaching week 6 of the official campaign time, I wanted to provide you with a few updates both from my campaign and the Alberta Party.

From a party standpoint, I am pleased that all my fellow candidates, including party leader, Stephen Mandel, have been successful in their court hearings and are fully back on the campaign trail.

The Alberta Party leader, Stephen Mandel, made a policy statement on March 7th that, if elected, the Alberta Party will require children to have up-to-date immunizations in order to attend a publicly-funded school.  While a contentious policy, this is an important policy for Albertans.  There will, of course, be medical exemptions for those who can’t vaccinate, and we will be developing the list of vaccines in consultation with health care experts.  The Alberta Party will continue to create evidence-based policies that are in the best interest of Albertans.

I had the opportunity to attend a community event hosted by the Alberta College of Social Work as they celebrated the profession this week.  The theme this year was Real People. Real Impact. In partnership with the Canmore Public Library and the National Film Board of Canada, the local ACSW co-ordinators held a viewing of No Place to Call Home; a documentary about a working poor family.  The documentary was followed by a brief, respectful conversation on how each of us can make small changes to make a difference.  I appreciate the invitation to attend and discuss this important issue.

Coming up on March 15th is CYAN’s Move Mountains Festival.  I am looking forward to connecting with Canmore’s young adults and hearing what their biggest concerns are.  I will report on the event in my next update.

See you at the doors!
