Ryan McDougall's Profile
Ryan was born and raised in Lloydminster to a middle class family and was fed by income from the oil and gas industry. Relocating to Red Deer after the birth of her son in 1998 to be closer to her grandparents Ryan has become a devoted Red Deer citizen with a drive to bring prosperity, stability and safe communities to her neighbors.
Ryan has been a family law paralegal since graduating from Red Deer College in 2001 and went onto to achieve certification as a dispute resolution specialist in 2012; she completed a further degree majoring in Governance, Law & Management in 2015, while working full time as a single parent. Ryan operates a private family law mediation practice, Choice Solutions, in Red Deer.
In 2017 Ryan became the vice-president of the Alberta Association of Professional Paralegals and is working hard to bring much needed unparalleled accessibility of legal services to Albertans.
Collaborating with community programs she volunteers with non-profit organizations empowering young parents and providing legal information to separating couples since 2006. In 2017 she worked on the committee responsible for bringing awareness to the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence to the students of Red Deer College and also participated in a wide-spread symposium to research the needs of domestic violence victims in our province organized by the Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters. Ryan has also been a regularly invited guest speaker at Red Deer College on topics of workplace dynamics and relationships, the legal system and professional advancement.
Personally, Ryan has two adult children who were both raised in Red Deer enjoying the many programs the City has to offer and volunteered as a soccer coach to the Timbits teams and teaching Sunday school. She is an animal enthusiast and enjoys spending time with her dogs walking the beautiful trails in Red Deer’s parks. She stays active, loves the entrepreneurial spirit and energy of the Farmer’s Market, skating at Bower Ponds, skiing at Canyon Ski hill, traveling to the mountains and she takes pride in looking after her home.
