Post-Secondary Strikes: Uncertain Futures for Students and Staff

The provincial government has a responsibility to deliver on the promise to provide top quality post-secondary education, not only now, but in the future.

This government’s disregard to respectfully manage any relationship or collaboration is creating significant barriers for Alberta students now and even more so in the future. The current labour issues are a result of this lack of concern and commitment, and significant downward pressure on postsecondary institutions to continually do more with less with slash after slash to budgets.

I am both angry and sad that our students, educators, staff members and communities are facing uncertain futures simply because the government won’t listen. There has been enough disruption and personal devastation through COVID – mentally, financially, and academically. The Alberta Party will take a proactive, collaborative approach and work with our institutions and our students to create a future that will drive Alberta to be the best.

After 2 years of challenge and uncertainty, prioritizing the needs of our students and academic staff should be a top priority. Alberta has big issues to solve and we are going to need the best academic staff, the best research and the best students to make it possible.
