Update from Acting Leader Jacquie Fenske

Jacquie made a couple of radio show appearances this week where she talked about how the UCP Government is steamrolling municipal leaders through Bill 48:

"This Bill pledges to reduce red tape. A laudable goal. But instead, it does to municipalities what Ottawa does to Alberta"

- Acting Leader Jacquie Fenske

Board Bio — Anthony Castillo

Anthony is one of the youngest members of our Board and handles the responsibility of being our Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with ease. He works hard for the party while working hard on his own personal goals.

He is a student at the University of Lethbridge working on two degrees and has also recently received a promotion at work. Apparently, we are not the only ones impressed with Anthony!

Fundraising

What are we Fundraising for right now? One of the biggest projects is to update our website.

Why do we need to update the website?

The website is overdue for an overhaul. We need the updates to handle increased traffic, to seamlessly load the pages and to ensure there are no hiccups in the updates, RSVP, ticket and donation processes.

Help fund the new Alberta Party website

  • Some of you may have noticed that the site can load very slowly on some pages. The overhaul would address the loading issues and create a better experience for supporters as well as new people interested in the party
  • The overhaul would enable the team to create content more easily that would help you bring the Alberta Party’s message to your communities
  • Behind the scenes, a streamlined back end would align our site with today’s search engine optimization (SEO) best practices that would help the party be more discoverable online
  • The overhaul would enable us to take advantage of newer features offered by our website’s platform NationBuilder. This includes community building, member relationship management and overall solid data practices that will help lead us into the leadership race and next election cycle

How much does a website overhaul cost? Early estimates are budgeted between $10,000 and $15,000.

We have already earmarked some of our increased donations this quarter to this project, but we need your help to make this happen.

This Week in Alberta

It is often forgotten that Albertans play a world-leading role in medical research. It is important to highlight when, once again, researchers make profound and potentially world-changing discoveries.

This week, University of Alberta researchers were able to cure mice of diabetes using stem cells!

As a writer, getting published seems like the hardest, most insurmountable barrier. Ideas, prose and poetry, and creativity are the easy part.

This is especially true for those who are not connected to the literary community, often concentrated in major centres like Toronto or New York.

University of Alberta Augustana student Amielle Christopherson has started a literary journal specifically for rural writers.

The proposed legislation of Bill 48 would concentrate power in the hands of the provincial government at the expense of municipalities.

Municipal leaders would lose the ability to respond to their constituents and build the communities they want.
