Update from Acting Leader Jacquie Fenske

This week, while many Remembrance Day services were limited due to safety precautions, Jacquie chose to stop in Fort Saskatchewan and honour those who fought and died for our hard won freedoms and way of life.

Jacquie also made a stop in Airdrie, at the touching memorial to our veterans who served in Afghanistan.

Board Bio — Tristan Patterson

Tristan is a newly elected board member who went from serving as an active duty Infantry Officer to civilian in May of this year.

Seeing an opportunity to contribute, he put his name forward for the Board and was elected in August. We spoke with Tristan about leadership and the roles we have in the party.

Update From the Board

This week was the Board’s first meeting after the strategic planning weekend a few weeks ago in St. Albert. The Board continues to make critical decisions in key areas such as fundraising, organizing, and setting the stage for a successful 2021.

Committees are critical components of any organization. In addition to reviewing reports from various working groups, the Provincial Board moved forward with approving chairs to several important committees. These include the Leadership Election and Election Readiness committees.

If you’re interested in serving on any of these committees, please contact the Corporate Secretary at [email protected]. Current committees and their chairs are listed on the Party’s governance website.

There are currently 10 positions open on the Provincial Board, and our governing documents allow the Board to appoint individuals to those spots. We are moving forward in collecting resumes of interested individuals with the intention of bolstering specific skill sets.

To request a copy of board meeting reports, please contact the Corporate Secretary at [email protected].

This Week in Alberta

Empowering communities, partnering with municipalities, and finding novel ways to build our future is core to the Alberta Party’s identity.

That is why in last week’s digest we commended the plan to build a bridge over the Peace River near La Crete to replace the ferry.

Read our Statement

The government, as is typical, left its bad news for Friday afternoon last week. It stated that its opening position to bargain with public sector workers would be a four percent pay cut and zero increases for three years.

Farmers and other rural landowners could face further hardship as a result of the government ignoring their top issues. This article from the Western Producer explains how tax increases are inevitable if oil companies continue to get a free pass and are not forced to pay the taxes they owe to rural municipalities.

This week also saw the first lawsuit of landowners against oil companies over unpaid leases.

Interesting Read

Regardless of government policy, oil companies are adapting to a more environmentally-focused future. Read "Blue wave or not, a green wave is sweeping the Canadian oilpatch" from the Financial Post to dig deeper.
