The Alberta Party has opened the nomination process to select a permanent leader.

The nomination period, which opened Tuesday, will close on August 31, 2021.

Former Mayor, Health Minister, and MLA Stephen Mandel, who was the previous leader during the 2019 Election, stepped down in the summer of 2019. Former MLA Jacquie Fenske was appointed the acting leader in February 2020.

“The selection of a new leader to step into the shoes left by former leaders Stephen Mandel and Greg Clark before him is an important step forward to prepare for the next election. I’m thrilled that we have reached the point where we can officially open nominations. We have been incredibly fortunate to have Jacquie Fenske at the helm during an unprecedented time in the world. She has been a strong voice for the party, and we thank her for everything she has done for us over the last 16 months." President Conrad Guay

The nomination process will be guided by the party’s Leadership Election Committee and the rules established and ratified by the Provincial Board. Members will not be able to vote without a valid Alberta Party membership, with the cut-off date for membership sales being midnight on October 24, 2021. Voting will begin on November 4 and close on November 6, when the winner of the leadership race will be announced.
