New Supports for Small Businesses
Alberta Party calls for business supports that enable growth and empower business owners.
On February 24th, the Alberta Party will release its Shadow Budget. An alternative vision for Alberta’s finances and economic growth, it will include a host of new measures that show Albertans they have a choice.
People, Economy, Jobs will include new capital supports for small business that give them what they need - operating capital now. The Alberta Party plan provides $600M to ATB and other financial institutions for small business operating loans to empower owners and operators to rehire staff and grow. Fifty percent of this will be forgiven, bringing the total cost to the provincial budget to $300M. We would also double the small business deduction from $500,000 to $1M to support growth and development. Businesses would only be eligible if this support is used to employ Albertans.
Acting Leader Jacquie Fenske:
Alberta’s small businesses have been hurting, and while federal and provincial programs have been enacted, they can be complicated, take time to get money out the door, and are targeted at certain elements of a business's needs, like rent or employment. Operating loans like this allow them to prioritize payments. They know best, and we should provide them support without interfering in their business.
Albertans have an option, and People, Economy, Jobs will provide a sorely-needed vision for the province. The full Shadow Budget will be released on February 24th.
