Grant Berg, born and raised in Alberta, understands the challenges of small business and how to make it work. Both his parents were to parents were small business owners. In the recession of the 1980s, his family struggled. His father was a rig hand/tool push before starting his own sandblasting business and eventually taking up farming; his mother is the youngest of eight children from a Scottish trapper and a Cree homemaker. She started a second-hand store in Tofield, still present today. 

Grant moved to the Peace Region in 1988 and then to Grande Prairie in 1991.  Grant’s professional background has been in communications, starting in TV and moving to radio as an announcer for 6 years. After that, he forged into the marketing field, helping small businesses grow. Grant left CJXX after 23 years when he was provided with the opportunity to be the General Manager of a hit music station, 2day FM - a station serving Grande Prairie’s younger demographics. Having completed that goal, Grant began following his parents’ footsteps and started a small business of his own.

Grant is a small business owner of art galleries, with two locations in Alberta carrying on the dream of many in Alberta, to use the entrepreneurial spirit to start a business and build a better life.

Grant is married and has two adult children with his wife, Rhonda.  Since moving to Grande Prairie, Grant has tried to make it a better place to live and work. In an effort to increase the quality of life of its’ community, Grant has volunteered with several organizations including the GPRC Arts advisory Council, Sunrise Rotary and Grande Prairie Downtown Association, Scouts Canada, and the Sexsmith Museum Society. Grant was also the Chairman of Art Gallery of Grande Prairie, which is now the Alberta’s 2nd largest public art gallery.

Grant’s priorities include ensuring people continue to work and having a diversified economy which includes forestry and agriculture. He believes in small business and entrepreneurship and wants to work on government policy to enhance the quantity and quality of jobs.

Grant is extremely passionate about mental health. He understands the growing issues around addiction and suicide and believes that the root causes of these are what needs to be addressed. Preventative care changes lives – from crime reduction to costs on our health care.
