Bob Ascah, long time Head of the Institute for Public Economics of the University of Alberta, will make a 5-10 minute presentation on “The Fiscal Pros and Cons of an Alberta Sales Tax” and then participate in a Q&A. There is a good understanding of the political issues involved on this topic, but perhaps less understanding of the fiscal issues.
Mark Nikota, the Alberta Party Shadow Minister for Treasury Board and Finance, will lead a discussion on “Provincial budgeting”, which is timely as the UCP government’s budget is scheduled to come down on Feb 25, along with the AP’s shadow budget.
