Sid is a Fort McMurray business owner with deep roots in our community. Born in Lebanon, Sid moved to Alberta when he was one. However, his family began arriving in Alberta and the Fort McMurray area region starting in the early 1900s to work as fur traders and business owners. Some of his relatives even helped build Canada’s first mosque in Edmonton in 1938.
Sid’s father moved to Fort McMurray in the late 1960s to work for Suncor. Over the past decade, Sid has opened several businesses in Fort McMurray, including three restaurants, a barbershop and a thrift store that donated profits to charity. Through the economic downturn and the 2016 wildfire, Sid lost a business and knows hard everyone has had to work. He never gave up though and got back to work to start rebuilding. Sid currently runs Mac Granite and is actively participating in the rebuild.
Sid is running to be your next MLA because Fort McMurray needs a strong voice in order for it to receive the supports necessary from the Legislature to get our region's economic engine revving again, and he knows that there is no time to waste. Sid is running for the Alberta Party because of the party’s “balanced and common sense” approach to economic and social issues.
