This Week in Alberta
REOPENING PLAN
Better late than never, the Premier announced a COVID-19 reopening plan that will provide clarity to Albertans and small businesses. Each stage of the plan relies on increasing vaccination rates and decreasing hospitalization numbers.
The Alberta Party has been calling for a clear and achievable plan to reopen the province safely and provide stability for Alberta’s families and small businesses.
The UCP’s plan does not address lingering vaccine hesitancy and does not have clear guidelines for regions where vaccine uptake is behind the rest of the province.
More can be done to provide easier access to the vaccine. We are calling for mobile pop-up clinics and for better education.

TURN OFF THE TAPS
The UCP reintroduced a recently expired NDP bill that allows Alberta to prevent the export of oil and gas.
The original bill was enacted to retaliate against the BC government, which was opposed to the construction of the TransMountain pipeline.
The original legislation had a sunset clause, introduced by former Alberta Party Leader Greg Clark. Former MLA Karen McPherson made an amendment to make the sunset clause official.
The UCP’s version of the bill does not include a sunset clause continuing the UCP’s confrontational political style which has repeatedly failed Albertans, whether it be over pipelines, doctors, or teachers.
ATA DISAPPROVAL
The UCP has again failed to work with major stakeholders when developing and enacting new policies, this time with the Alberta Teachers’ Association.
In an Alberta Teachers’ Association vote, 99% of delegates indicated that they had lost confidence in the Education Minister, Adrianna LaGrange. This kind of failure leads to distrust, animosity, and confrontation.
When the Alberta Party says we do politics differently, we mean through open dialogue and good faith negotiations — which are core values of the Party.
