Which 31 Teachers Will The PCs Cut In Calgary Elbow?

The Alberta Party does the math while Dirks’ remains silent on education cuts

Calgary, AB – March 23, 2015 - Alberta Party leader Greg Clark called on Gordon Dirks, Minister of Education and Calgary Elbow MLA, to come clean on how his plans to slash 9% from provincial program spending to Education will reduce teachers in Calgary Elbow.

Astonishingly, Dirks has failed to stand up against cuts to education in our community and won’t even say how many teachers we will lose,” said Clark. “Our MLA has failed to represent parents and students and we’ve done the math to show the negative effect of Dirks’ proposed cuts.”

The Alberta Party has used public information to estimate how the Dirks’ plan to cut education will affect schools. In Calgary Elbow alone, 31 teaching positions could be chopped resulting in larger classes and decreased quality of education.

“Our kids’ education shouldn’t depend on the price of oil. The PCs got us into this situation and now they want students to pay for their mistakes,” said Clark.

The Alberta Party will fight to build schools, protect our teachers and reduce class sizes.
