Alberta Party statement on suspected terrorist attack in Edmonton

Posted on October 01, 2017 by Robbie Kreger-Smith

October 1, 2017 (Edmonton, AB) – Like all Albertans we were shocked and outraged to wake up and hear news of a suspected terrorist attack occurring last night in our capital, Edmonton.

We are sending our wishes for a speedy recovery to the police officer and the civilians who were injured in these brazen attacks. To their families and friends, we send our thoughts as you deal with the grief of seeing a loved one put in harm’s way by this senseless violence.

To the Edmonton Police Service and first responders, thank you for your quick action to prevent further casualties, and ensuring our injured officer and civilians were provided with the best care possible. We are full of gratitude for our first responders and the sacrifices they make every day to ensure the people of Edmonton and Alberta are safe and secure.

We must stand up to the violent extremism that has seen a number of similar attacks occur across the globe, and ensure that it is not allowed to take root in our society. This will mean law enforcement and neighbours working together within their communities, schools, and faith groups. At the same time, we must not allow the fear that is generated by an attack such as this to infect our society and divide us from our neighbours.

Edmonton is a city of enduring strength and character, and the community spirit that has pulled them through numerous other tragedies will see them through this event as well.
