Alberta Party leader writes open letter to Alberta Liberal supporters, offers membership exchange
May 29, 2014
CALGARY – Alberta Party leader Greg Clark invited Liberal supporters to help build a moderate and electable political alternative.
“Progressive Albertans don’t have a political home,” said Clark. “Despite years of effort the Liberal party hasn’t captured the imagination of Albertans. They’ve gone from nearly 40% of the vote in 1993 to under 10% in 2012. It’s just not working.”
It’s time to unite progressives under a new political banner, says Clark.
“In 2012 many people left the Liberals to vote PC, only to be disappointed by broken promises,” said Clark. “The PC party clearly doesn’t fit the values of progressive Albertans and after more than 90 years in opposition there’s no chance the Liberal party will form government any time soon, if ever.”
The Alberta Party is offering Liberal members a limited time membership exchange. Liberal members can exchange their membership for an Alberta Party membership at no cost before June 30th by filling in a form on the Alberta Party website.
“This is an important time in Alberta history. The choices we make now will determine if we are economically prosperous and socially strong for a long time to come. To get there we need a new approach to government and fresh ideas led by an energetic, electable, progressive party.
“I believe the Alberta Party is that choice. I hope Liberal supporters will too.”
