About me
I was born in Calgary at a hospital a few blocks from where I currently live. A highlight of growing up in southern Alberta was helping my uncle on his cattle ranch near Rimbey. I graduated from the University of Calgary and have been fortunate to work as an engineer across the province, from Lethbridge to Cold Lake and Lloydminster to Hinton. I recently completed a law degree and am articling in Calgary.
Like many Albertans, I benefited from an excellent health and education system and followed job opportunities wherever they took me. I had these opportunities in large part because my mother, who immigrated to Canada, was able to start a successful business from scratch. From my upbringing, I firmly believe that Alberta must be both the best place to live and the best place to start a business.
My political background
I have never before been a member of a political party.
My first political involvement was the 2010 municipal election in Calgary. In that election, a small group of passionate citizens ignited a wave of civic engagement. A friend wrote a message that she wished politics in Alberta was that exciting. I believe that it will be. Albertans know that change is possible.
Why I am excited to be involved in the Alberta Party
The public hospital where I was born was closed, privatized and then almost went bankrupt. Politicians failed to adequately discuss any of these issues with my community. I am impressed that the Alberta Party is focused on listening. The party has heard my thoughts and those of thousands of Albertans through its Big Listen events.
At the Alberta Party’s first Policy Convention, I shared a table with the CEO of an oil and gas company, a retired farmer and a young woman completing her university degree. We discussed our hopes and dreams for the province. We did not always agree, but we always listened and respected each other. At that moment I knew that the Alberta Party was for me. The party has listened and meaningfully engaged a diverse group of Albertans. That is what government should do.
How I’m involved
With a group of leaders in my community, I helped form the Alberta Party Calgary Buffalo Constituency Association. We view our group as a mechanism for community service. We’re promoting cultural events, speakers and volunteering in the community.
I recently joined the Alberta Party’s Environmental Policy Committee. We’ll be working hard to identify solutions that benefit the environment and our economy. I’m most proud to be an Alberta Party donor. If passionate people dedicate their time and money, I’m convinced that we can bring positive political change to Alberta.
