Happy Family Day!
Posted on February 17, 2014 by Greg Clark
Family Day has become one of my favourite holidays because it gives us an opportunity to spend some time with our families and focus on the great quality of life we have here in Alberta. And where does that quality of life come from? Simple, it’s the people.
Albertans are not just hard-working. We care about our communities. A recent study showed 85% of Albertans made either a financial or an in-kind donation to a charity or not-for-profit and more than half of us volunteer our time. This is what it means to have a strong community and Family Day gives us a chance to reflect on what community and family means to you.
Today’s families reflect Alberta’s great diversity. Whoever you call ‘family’, I encourage you to take some time today to stay connected. And to those who have to work today to keep our province running – first responders, nurses, doctors or anyone on shift work – thank you for doing your part so the rest of us can enjoy Family Day.
I also want to share our hopes for families in Alberta on behalf of my colleagues in the Alberta Party. We want your family to be assured of a great education for your children. We want you to be able to count on world-class healthcare. We want there to be continued economic opportunity in Alberta and we want you to be assured of enjoying clean air and water for generations to come.
You have my commitment to work hard every day to ensure we continue to enjoy the great quality of life we have in Alberta, and I hope each and every one of you gets the opportunity to spend some time with your families today.
Happy Family Day.
