Easter Message from Glenn Taylor
Posted on by Richard Einarson
This Easter weekend families across Alberta are sitting down with friends and loved ones to complete the celebration of the Holy Week that commenced last Palm Sunday and concludes this Easter weekend. As part of this week, Christians will celebrate the death and the resurrection of Christ, which forms the foundation of the Christian faith. Of the many examples provided by the life of Jesus and this Easter weekend, an important one to me was Christ’s act of humility in ritualistically washing the feet of his disciples during the Last Supper.
As a political leader, this example of quiet and humble service resonates deeply within me. Asking oneself how to best lead by serving, is to understand the origin of the role of a public servant in society. If you can remember this lesson of humility it guides how one on how to approach their role as an elected official. Some of the other underlying themes of Jesus’ life are the struggle for individuals to reach their potential and the responsibilities we have for other members of our community. These are also the basic questions which need be asked of anyone seeking to govern.
As Easter this year coincides with a provincial election, it is a perfect time to re-examine what it means to be a citizen, and to become an active participant in defining and working towards the Alberta that provides satisfying answers to the questions posed by the life of Christ. To listen to one another in an inclusive and respectful way and to dream in a bigger way of the future that can be. To ensure that no minorities are ever again singled out or excluded from society because someone with power disapproves of or looks down upon them. The new party we are building is based on the idea of active citizenry.
Jesus said, “Ask and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you”. It is my wish and hope that as Christians in Alberta accept this invitation, that they will do their part to make the path of their fellow Albertan’s better, freer, more inclusive and more engaged.
On behalf of the Alberta Party, I would like to wish all members of Alberta’s Christian community a happy Easter weekend.
