Greg Clark reacts to Climate Plan

EDMONTON, AB - November 22, 2015 - Alberta Party Opposition Leader Greg Clark is broadly supportive of the ND climate plan and calls on the government to use this strategy to unapologetically promote market access for Alberta industry.
“There are a number of similarities between this report and our plan Alberta’s Contribution: The Alberta Party Climate Change Strategy, and I am pleased to see they’ve adopted a number of strategies we recommended,” said Clark.
“That said, I am concerned about the scale of the carbon price and the fact the plan is not truly revenue neutral – it still comes at a cost to the average Albertan. I would have liked to see tax cuts, but support the investment in R&D and green technology.”
“Today’s announcement is a step into the next economy but doesn’t abandon what has made Alberta successful,” said Clark. “The climate panel clearly considered input from industry, NGO stakeholders and Albertans, and I applaud this approach.
Now it’s time for the government to unapologetically promote Alberta’s emissions reduction successes to date and clearly articulate support for the long-term growth of Alberta’s energy industry, including the oil sands, conventional production, natural gas power, cogeneration and renewable energy.”
