Alberta Party Announces Cristina Stasia as Our Candidate in Edmonton-Gold Bar

Posted on March 04, 2015 by Katherine Taylor

On Wednesday, March 4th the Alberta Party introduced Cristina Stasia as the Alberta Party candidate for Edmonton-Gold Bar.

Dr. Stasia is a faculty lecturer in the Department of Women's and Gender Studies at the University of Alberta and a founding member of the Women’s Advisory Voices of Edmonton, a City Council-backed program that promotes women's involvement in civic life, politics and city planning.

“After mentoring with Mayor Iveson and working with Councilor Knack I realized the importance of public service,” explains Cristina. “I am entering politics, with the Alberta Party, to make a difference in the Alberta Legislature on issues that are important to me and the voters in Edmonton-Gold Bar.”

A passionate advocate, an accomplished university lecturer, a popular speaker and one of Avenue Magazine's Top 40 Under 40, Cristina Stasia is one of Edmonton's brightest young voices for equality and social justice, and she is driven to make real-world differences in the lives of Albertans.

"Cristina is a next-generation leader who has a track record of standing up for her community,” says Greg Clark, leader of the Alberta Party. “She's exactly the kind of person we need in the legislature."

Cristina was joined at the announcement by Alberta Party leader Greg Clark and a number of Edmonton community leaders.

We regret that the information in Dr. Stasia’s bio was incorrect, it was not our intent to mislead anyone; this was simply an oversight as not all of Dr. Stasia’s campaign team is familiar with the hierarchy of university professorship. We have changed her bio to reflect that she is a faculty lecturer for the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Alberta and apologize for any inconvenience.

FYI Dr. Stasia is a lecturer, not a professor, at the U of A. Truly hope the Alberta party improves their fact-checking!
