Greg's Blog - A Better Way to Balance

Last week the Alberta Party released our shadow budget, which is our second such document. We believe as an opposition party we have two choices; we can oppose everything the government does or we can propose ideas and tell Albertans how we would address the challenges facing our province.

Alberta Party shadow budget balances in four years, avoids big cuts, engages public service to find cost savings

EDMONTON, AB - April 15, 2016 - There is a better way to balance the budget that doesn’t burden future generations with unsustainable debt loads while still investing in infrastructure and preserving front-line services, says Alberta Party leader Greg Clark.

The detailed Alberta Party shadow budget can be found here.

"Alberta’s budget crisis means the government needs to make responsible choices," said Clark. “Unfortunately the NDP took the easy way out by putting off hard decisions into the future, and we know Wildrose would make major cuts that would impact front-line public services.

Budget 2016 Puts Alberta’s Future at Risk

EDMONTON, AB - April 14, 2016 - The NDP budget sets Alberta up for serious cutbacks and financial pain in the near future, says Alberta Party Leader Greg Clark.

“I’m beyond being angry, I’m worried,” said Clark. “I worry the NDs don’t understand the real magnitude of the situation. “It’s beyond irresponsible, it’s negligent.”

Clark said the NDs need to focus on must-have priorities and deliver those services cost-effectively.

CALGARY, AB - March 24, 2016 - The admission that the NDs have no plan to balance Alberta’s budget is an abdication of their duty to Albertans, says Alberta Party Opposition leader Greg Clark.

"I've been concerned from the start that the NDs haven't had a plan to return to balance,” said Clark. “Joe Ceci simply confirmed what Albertans had feared: this government has had no intention and no plan to return to balanced budgets."

Clark said the NDs need to make difficult choices to manage the cost of government.

Speech from the Throne a missed opportunity

EDMONTON, AB - March 8, 2016 - The NDs missed the opportunity to reassure Albertans about the economic stability of the province, says Alberta Party Opposition Leader Greg Clark.

“The NDs have absolutely no interest in a plan to get back to balance,” said Clark. “This is troubling and is certain to lead towards a credit rating downgrade.

“At this point the government cannot continue to blame the PCs for their current economic situation,” said Clark. “I am concerned about their inability to actually rein in spending, and this is the reality that their choices have led us to. The NDs need to recognize that and correct course immediately.”
